This self-portrait series began as an exploration into creating a cohesive social media presence. I found myself frustrated with the disjointed nature of my feed, where I was attempting to showcase all facets of my photography. But I recently decided to rethink my approach, realizing that social media could be a space to develop a specific body of work rather than a catch-all for everything I create. Self-portraits seemed the perfect fit for this experiment—after all, social media is ultimately about the user. By focusing on these intimate, immediate snapshots of myself, I could build a feed with purpose while liberating my deeper projects from the constraints of social media performance.
The process of creating these self-portraits has become a joyful, cathartic experience. It's a "low-stakes" exploration that allows me to delve into my relationship with myself in a playful, unrestricted way. The simplicity and spontaneity of Polaroid photography has turned these sessions into a form of self-discovery, helping me to express aspects of my identity without the pressure of chasing likes or engagement metrics. This freedom has also empowered me to pour deeper intention and energy into my other work, knowing it doesn’t have to fit into the social media mold.
